We are always thinking of new ways to bring our classics closer to the people that love them most. By partnering with like-minded businesses we can do just that. As so many petrol heads do these days, we met scrolling each others feeds on Instagram admiring the universal language of cars.
Bill, owner of Commonwealth Classics, and Sam, founder of Samuel Lloyd & Co, spent a good 12 months bouncing ideas back and forth across the Atlantic pond. Being in Europe we are fortunate to be at the epicentre of British and European classic cars, however the one thing we lack is the platform to show off these awesome cars to US buyers.
Thats where Commonwealth Classics step in. The partnership sees a selection of Samuel Lloyd & Co’s inventory (The A-List) head stateside to be titled and displayed for sale in Commonwealth Classics Virginia showroom. We share a mutual interest in bringing classic cars to a global stage and this partnership aims to further build on this.
The price you see for any of our Commonwealth Classics Partnership cars is for a US titled fully legally imported vehicle.
As part of our commitment to look after our world 2% of every car sale goes towards supporting Cool Earth and their rainforest partners. Cool Earth works alongside rainforest communities globally to halt deforestation and its impact on climate change. There's no obligation, but if you think the same way we do why not match or better our pledge by clicking the following link: The Samuel Lloyd & Co Cool Earth Fund
The Land Rover Series range was launched in 1948 and the model, now known as the Defender, was launched in 1983 and the continuous run finished in January 2016, after 67 years. Land Rovers were inspired by the US-built Willys Jeep immediately after the war and by 1992 they claimed that 70% of all the vehicles they had ever built were still in use. The Defender and Series ranges have had unique international presence throughout the production run, having been exported, manufactured and produced under licence by a number of other manufacturers in a variety of markets, to include Australia, Southern and North Africa, Turkey, Brazil, Pakistan and Malaysia, to name just a few. In 1993 Land Rover decided to take the plunge into the US market after their successful launch of the Range Rover brand in 1987 in order to offer an upmarket alternative to the Jeep Wrangler targeted at adventurous buyers. Land Rover finally had to retract their offering from the North American and Canadian markets in 1997 due to economic viability. The Defenders offered in the US during the 90’s had to be significantly modified in comparison to Land Rover’s other export markets. Subsequent federal safety regulation amendments finally withdrew the Defender from the US market entirely in 1997, with Land Rover throwing their attention towards upmarket Discovery and Range Rover models that were being built from the ground up.
This 1990 Land Rover 90 is in impeccable original condition. A true time-warp survivor having benefited from regular maintenance under its last owners stewardship since 2012. Prior to this the vehicle was owned by its first owner Roseto Degli Abruzzi from 03/05/1994 to 30/03/2012 who’s documented on the original vehicle Targa. Thus representing a unique opportunity to purchase a documented two owner vehicle.
The vehicle was originally a French export built vehicle with a factory build and dispatch date of 09/05/1990, designated for distribution by Land Rover France S.A.S, however was eventually registered in Italy in May 1994. Repatriated by ourselves back to the United Kingdom earlier this year from Montefino Italy. On arrival of the vehicle was put through comprehensive check over to renew any worn or non-functioning components.
In summary it's one of the most original and well preserved vehicles we have had the pleasure to come across. It mechanically and functionally needs for nothing, and carries a unique period patina, that money just can't buy.
