History of the Land Rover

The Land Rover Series range was launched in 1948 and the model, now known as the Defender, was launched in 1983 and the continuous run finished in January 2016, after 67 years. Land Rovers were inspired by the US-built Willys Jeep immediately after the war and by 1992 they claimed that 70% of all the vehicles they had ever built were still in use. The Defender and Series ranges have had a unique international presence throughout the production run, having been exported, manufactured, and produced under license by a number of other manufacturers in a variety of markets, including Australia, Southern, and North Africa, Turkey, Brazil, Pakistan, and Malaysia, to name just a few.  In 1993 Land Rover decided to take the plunge into the US market after their successful launch of the Range Rover brand in 1987 in order to offer an upmarket alternative to the Jeep Wrangler targeted at adventurous buyers. Land Rover finally had to retract their offering from the North American and Canadian markets in 1997 due to economic viability. The Defenders offered in the US during the 90’s had to be significantly modified in comparison to Land Rover’s other export markets. Subsequent federal safety regulation amendments finally withdrew the Defender from the US market entirely in 1997, with Land Rover throwing their attention towards upmarket Discovery and Range Rover models that were being built from the ground up.

The Car

The perfect winter toy. This 1994 Land Rover Defender 110 300 TDI was first delivered to the Polish market and first registered on 17th June 1994. Having been dispatched from the Solihull Land Rover factory as a 300TDI “ROW” Rest of World specification station wagon. As is often the case with ROW Defenders the first owner was a company and kept the vehicle for 20 years till the 6th July 2014. The vehicle was then passed to its second and most current owner who has remained in ownership till the start of 2021.

At this point, the vehicle was restored back to its former glory. When approaching the restoration, we were clear we wanted to respect the vehicle's history and in doing so retain as much of the original ROW spec as possible. With the exception of some subtle additions, the vehicle presents in the near correct factory specification.

We’ve opted for a TD5 side repeater, colour-matched wheel arches, and wolf wheels, a heavy-duty pull-away spare wheel carrier all complimented by a black vinyl interior complete with an Alcantara headliner.

The restoration has been comprehensive with a complete strip-down of body panels, taking a replace where necessary approach. This has resulted in new replacement door skins all around, an entirely new front wing assembly, and replacement rear wings. A selection of other smaller superficial panels was replaced including sill panels and cappings. All panels were then comprehensively prepared prior to painting in Arles Blue and Alpine White. The chassis was fully stripped, repaired, sandblasted primed, and painted. On reassembly the entire chassis was poly bushed, axles rebuilt, and brakes and swivels comprehensively overhauled. The engine has also received substantial refurbishment, with all ancillary engine items rebuilt, a replacement clutch kit, a new water pump, and a timing kit. A comprehensive list of restoration works and replacement items can be provided upon request. We can arrange shipping and importation to the USA. For any questions please call or text +19049906967.
