History of the Land Rover

The Land Rover Series range was launched in 1948 and the model, now known as the Defender, was launched in 1983 and the continuous run finished in January 2016, after 67 years. Land Rovers were inspired by the US-built Willys Jeep immediately after the war and by 1992 they claimed that 70% of all the vehicles they had ever built were still in use. The Defender and Series ranges have had a unique international presence throughout the production run, having been exported, manufactured, and produced under license by a number of other manufacturers in a variety of markets, including Australia, Southern, and North Africa, Turkey, Brazil, Pakistan, and Malaysia, to name just a few.  In 1993 Land Rover decided to take the plunge into the US market after their successful launch of the Range Rover brand in 1987 in order to offer an upmarket alternative to the Jeep Wrangler targeted at adventurous buyers. Land Rover finally had to retract their offering from the North American and Canadian markets in 1997 due to economic viability. The Defenders offered in the US during the 90’s had to be significantly modified in comparison to Land Rover’s other export markets. Subsequent federal safety regulation amendments finally withdrew the Defender from the US market entirely in 1997, with Land Rover throwing their attention towards upmarket Discovery and Range Rover models that were being built from the ground up.

THE CAR

We are pleased to offer this exceptionally well-presented 2004 TD5 110 County Station Wagon. Delivered new to Italy in 2004 and later registered in Lithuania in 2012. The vehicle has had 3 previous owners. In 2004 it was sent to a 4x4 specialist who fitted the custom-manufactured front winch bumper, front skid plate, snorkel, rear arch, and light guard. The vehicle has a bespoke brown interior and a wooden steering wheel. The vehicle was specifically prepared for recreational deer hunting. As such it was infrequently used from 2014 onwards. Inspection history indicates only 9,320 miles were driven during this period. The vehicle subsequently received a comprehensive light restoration in 2022. To include two replacement door skins, lower doorframe repair sections, new front RHS wing, complete external respray in factory Tonga green, all new window channels, door seals and window seals, replacement of all external optics, to include lights and plastic trim, all new external stainless steel fixings for doors bonnet and bulkhead, new shock absorbers and mounting turrets, variety of replacement radius arms bushes and control arms and ball joints along with a rebuilt steering box, replacement brake discs and pads all round and rebuilt calipers. The prior is a summarized description of the restoration work performed. A comprehensive schedule of work can be provided on request. To conclude a highly sorted late TD5 that is ready for daily or weekend use. Highly encourage any interested buyers to view the YouTube video and don’t hesitate to contact us on +19049906967
