History of the Range Rover

The late 1960’s saw the emergence of the recreational off-road market led Land Rover to come up with a radically new competitor to the Jeep Wagoneer and the Ford Bronco. Land Rover passed on this challenge to Charles Spencer King, under the project title of “The 100 inch Station Wagon”.

It all started when Rover bought a Bronco and noticed the coiled suspension, this boosted the luxury element as gave improved performance and comfort. He also noted the powerful Buick V8. However, Mr. King gave the Range Rover several unique capabilities, improved carburettors that still fed fuel at extreme angles and the infamous started handle for emergencies.

It was launched in 1970 as “a car for all reasons”. The Range Rover was also the first permanent 4x4 to do over 100mph whilst having a towing capacity of 3.5 metric tons, accommodation for five, hydraulic disc brakes to all wheels and the groundbreaking dual-range, permanent four-wheel drive gear box.

A four door version was introduced in 1981, with the two door version phased out in 1994, it was then named the ‘Classic’ to differentiate from the all new P38a Range Rover.

The Car

This 1994 Range Rover Classic 4 Door was delivered by Britcars S.A in Terresa, Barcelona, Spain and first registered on 18th February 1994. The vehicle remained with its first owner till earlier this year and has never left the Catalonia province. Structurally, this is one of the finest we have had the pleasure to come across. The chassis, floors and sills are all in exceptional rust-free condition. This is a true timewarp vehicle that’s a testament to its single owner. Very seldom do you come across such an untouched and well-preserved Range Rover Classic. This may well be one of the finest examples worldwide and certainly of collectable car quality

Condition

Exterior & Paint

The bodywork presents in exceptional condition and only the smallest of indent is notable on the driver side rear door and a second on the driver’s side rear quarter panel. The bodywork and paint work are factory original, with the exception of the front bonnet, rear tailgate and front offside and nearside wings. These have recently been repainted going back to bare metal, and re-finished to the highest of standards in the correct factory paint code.

Wheels

The car has a full set of 5 ‘Rostyle’ wheels that present in excellent condition given they carry their original factory finish and are accompanied by matching original center caps. The tires fitted are a set of recently replaced matching Michelin 205/80/R16.

Interior

The interior is without doubt the very finest example we have ever had the pleasure to come across. It presents in factory, as new condition, with the exception of the slightest wear to the driver-side bolster piping. The gearstick retains its original leather, complete with a dealer fitted stereo. Furthermore, all electrical equipment and air conditioning are functioning. It’s notable that there is the slightest of scuffing to the rear door entry points. The original parcel shelf and spare wheel cover are in perfect condition. The centre console is also in original condition with no weakening to mention and no cracking or holes to any of the dashboard or palomino plastic panels. The headliner has recently been replaced by first owner and presents in new condition.

Steering wheel

The car features the original Range Rover Land Rover two spoke steering wheel which presents in as new condition.

Mechanical

Engine

The Engine is the well respected and bullet-proof 200 TDI. It has recently received a full service to included changing engine oil and oil, air and fuel filters. The engine has been checked for leaks and has subsequently had the engine sump pan gasket case replaced. The differential, transfer and gearbox oil have also been replaced along with the coolant. The vehicle has also received a replacement timing belt, tensioning rollers and water pump. Overall, the engine runs exceptionally well with plenty of power.

Gear Box

The Range Rover has the 5-speed manual LT77 box. All gears change freely without interference. The vehicle has recently received a replacement clutch, disc and pressure plate and this is reportedly the first replacement in the vehicles history.

Structural

The chassis and body mounts are all original and present in superb condition with no evidence of corrosion or perishing of rubber components. Many of the factory markings and labels are present on the chassis. It’s evident that the vehicle has never been undersealed, therefore it’s easy to visually inspect it’s true condition. Lastly it must be mentioned that there is no surface or penetrated corrosion to the floors, footwells, or sills.

Documentation

The car has its Spanish technical inspection logbook that documents the car’s technical specification, and annual recorded mileages dating back to its first ITV test in 1998. Its most recent ITV inspection was passed in October 2020. The vehicle is also accompanied by a host of recent invoices for mechanical and bodywork maintenance.

AN UPDATE FROM THE TEAM

We are here and open for business

These are truly extraordinary times. Although we’re not as raring to go as usual, we still remain open, with shipping line's continuing to run, although at a reduced frequency.

  Keeping our distance

Fortunately we are a small team and geographically spread. The team are largely working from home with the exception of our independent mechanics who are able to continue to work safely.

What does this mean for YOU

We continue to operate and send out vehicles globally on a monthly basis. Our ability to prepare a vehicle to a client's specification is somewhat stifled. Although our mechanics are doing their very best, to meet smaller requests.

  Fast Moving Cars

 AKA lockdown project.

We’ve been working hard over recent months to gather a collection of "FAST MOVING CARS". These are rolling projects, although not perfect, they are ideal for first time importers giving a taste of what English classics have to offer.

  Fighting fit in no time

We are confident that we will come through this stronger and we wish safety and good health to everyone and their families.

We are only a call, email or text away so please don’t hesitate.
