The late 1960’s saw the emergence of the recreational off-road market led Land Rover to come up with a radically new competitor to the Jeep Wagoneer and the Ford Bronco. Land Rover passed on this challenge to Charles Spencer King, under the project title of “The 100 inch Station Wagon”.
It all started when Rover bought a Bronco and noticed the coiled suspension, this boosted the luxury element as it gave improved performance and comfort. He also noted the powerful Buick V8. However, Mr. King gave the Range Rover several unique capabilities, improved carburetors that still fed fuel at extreme angles and the infamous starter handle for emergencies.
It was launched in 1970 as “a car for all reasons”. The Range Rover was also the first permanent 4x4 to do over 100mph whilst having a towing capacity of 3.5 metric tons, accommodation for five, hydraulic disc brakes to all wheels and the groundbreaking dual-range, permanent four-wheel drive gearbox.
A four-door version was introduced in 1981, with the two-door version phased out in 1994, it was then named the ‘Classic’ to differentiate from the all new P38a Range Rover.
We are very pleased to offer a highly original and unmodified late 3.5 EFI V8 derived 2 Door Range Rover Classic. It is an original French market vehicle first registered on the 12th December 1989. Believed to be a two-owner vehicle with the most recent owner enquiring on 19th October 1998. The vehicle is fitted with optional air-conditioning which is a rare addition to find on French market models. Structurally the vehicle is highly sound. With no notable perforated rust to the floors, inner archers and chassis frame. The vehicle has never received any structural repairs or welding. The body sills are also in very fine condition and have no structural or rust issues. Importantly the 2 door specific body panels are all intact and only display minor repairable dents and scratches. A critical area for anyone considering any 2 door refurbishment or restoration candidate, due to the scarcity of original panels. The vehicle is running and driving, however will need a mechanical overhaul prior to any extensive use. There was also a broken shock absorber to the rear, which would need addressing before any substantial testing was conducted. The vehicle present a fabulous candidate for a simple refurbishment due to its sound underpinnings and complete state. However would be equally suited to a more comprehensive restoration.
The general condition of the car would be best described as in need of some light refurbishment.
The Cairngorm brown paintwork is in need of some attention, for example on the bonnet the lacquer has started to peel away, however easily repaired by any good body shop. In addition, some of the panels have a variety of dents and dings, most notably the bonnet and front wings. Should this be of interest to the buyer - we can have this costed and repaired.
The Cairngorm brown paint has had a fairly hard life, the lacquer is peeling in several areas, such as the bonnet and wings. Lacquer peel is a common issue when the paint has been exposed to express heat, such as that of the south of France.
The original to-style wheels have been painted slightly off-white and are shod in four reasonably good tyres. The original colour for the to-styles would be a satin grey. Should it be of interest - we can have them reverted to the original colour.
The interior is near complete, with both front seats arching forward to allow passengers onto the firm rear bench seat, all in good order. There are no major rips or tears on the seats. The boot is missing its original furniture (boot lid and side panels to hide tools and spare wheel).
With some love and affection, the interior would be very good, the rearview mirror has fallen off the windscreen but is present. The headliner could do with a replacement at some stage.
The steering wheel is firm and hasn’t torn.
The engine always starts at the first time of asking and runs well, as can be seen in the accompanying Youtube video. The car drives well, engaging all of the gear without issue and pulling right through the rev-range as can be seen in the video. However would benefit from a mechanical overhaul before any period of extended usage.
The gearbox is in good order, it freely changes in and out of high and low range as well as the five forward gears and one reverse gear.
Structurally the car is good, much better than non exported UK vehicles. There is no rust or rot on the car apart from the usual surface rust on a few components. The chassis is immaculate still in its original paint from the factory.
Complete with foreign registration and export documents. The vehicle has been imported into the UK with both duty and VAT paid. For local buyers, a completed NOVA submission is accompanied with the sale for local UK registration.
The vehicle currently has a Spanish export registration (Permiso de Circulación) ready for registration in buyers chosen country, either EU or other.
The vehicle has an up-to-date ITV (MOT) stamp certificate (Permiso de Circulación), and comes complete with a Carfax or DGT certificate for proof of previous owners, mileage checks and further history etc. We are happy to provide registration documentation and Carfax reports on request.

We are here and open for business
These are truly extraordinary times. Although we’re not as raring to go as usual, we still remain open, with shipping line's continuing to run, although at a reduced frequency.
Keeping our distance
Fortunately we are a small team and geographically spread. The team are largely working from home with the exception of our independent mechanics who are able to continue to work safely.
What does this mean for YOU
We continue to operate and send out vehicles globally on a monthly basis. Our ability to prepare a vehicle to a client's specification is somewhat stifled. Although our mechanics are doing their very best, to meet smaller requests.
Fast Moving Cars
AKA lockdown project.
We’ve been working hard over recent months to gather a collection of "FAST MOVING CARS". These are rolling projects, although not perfect, they are ideal for first time importers giving a taste of what English classics have to offer.
Fighting fit in no time
We are confident that we will come through this stronger and we wish safety and good health to everyone and their families.
We are only a call, email or text away so please don’t hesitate.
